And this deserves a certain slowness and soaking-up momentum by its niche audience. We know you, we see you and we have always heard you!

This blog is dedicated to monsoon fans who wait around the year to come out of their den and enjoy the season’s greetings with an eye for detail. Here is a listicle of places near prominent Indian airports that you can go off to while on a lookout:

Bangalore

Just 60 km away from Bangalore airport, there is a famous hill station called Nandi Hills. Monsoon is the best time to visit Nandi Hills nestled on the hilltop. A green paradise very close to the heart of the city, visitors to Bangalore, can not get enough of this top spot. But if your heart roots for spending time watching water fall down from the top of a hill, Hebbe falls could be your calling. Surrounded by coffee plantations and situated near the Bhadra Wildlife sanctuary in the Chikmagalur district, this destination lies about 290 km away from the city of Bangalore.

Mumbai

While Lonavala and Khandala are the old favorites located near Mumbai airport, around 80 km away lies Bhivpuri Waterfalls in Karjat. The best time to visit this scenic beauty is the monsoon season when one can see water gush down the hilly terrain creating a pool of fresh water, ideal for a rejuvenating dip. The travel destination also claims to be a favorite for adventure seekers with sports like rappelling available for recreation and recharge.

If a hilly trek is your thing, do visit Karnala fort, around 54 km from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport which is famous for its 125-foot-tall basalt pillar known as Pandu’s tower. When the fort was occupied, this pillar served as a watchtower. There is also a water reservoir nearby that provides fresh water all year. The famous Prabalgad and Rajmachi forts can be seen from the fort’s vantage point.

Hyderabad

For fans of monsoon getaways, Hyderabad has many weekend tourist destinations to offer and amongst the list, is the lesser-known Kuntala Falls. A dreamy waterfall in the middle of the Sahyadri mountain range and also the highest in the Telangana region. Although this lies more than 260 km from Hyderabad city, a closer weekend getaway can be found in the Vikarabad district at Ananthagiri Hills. Legend has it that this small but beautiful hill station is the birthplace of the famous Musi river.

Delhi

When you visit the national capital during the monsoon season, a visit to the nearby hill stations especially around Himachal is a must. Approximately 350 km from the Indira Gandhi International airport, lies Badri Falls in the Solan district of Himachal. Also named after Badrinath, the small hot water fall adjoins the ice-cold Alakananda river originating from the snowy mountains. A slight detour for nature lovers has got to the Okhla and Sultanpur bird sanctuaries, shelter home to many migratory birds, less than 50 km from the Delhi airport.
